This past Sunday, Friendship Circle of Brooklyn unveiled a new mural on the corner of Kingston and Lefferts Avenues. The entire community was invited to join the festivities.

The mural is a collaborative piece created by participants of the Friendship Circle, under the direction of artist Rosie Goodman (nee Benabou). The message of the mural is “One Father, One Nation.” A beautiful video was created by artist Chana Laber explaining the deep significance behind this message.

The street fair is a part of the annual Art of Friendship program created in collaboration with the Bear Givers Foundation. The program empowers members of the Friendship Circle by putting them in the driver’s seat of giving and creating. Over the past few months, the FC members have each created their own artistic masterpieces in line with the theme of the day. These individual pieces of art that the members created were on display during the event, with people having the option to purchase them; thus enabling the children to support an organization they love and care for. It was worth attending the event just to see the proud smiles on each child’s face as they found their artwork hanging for all to see!

The event featured music by the Shpilkes band, face painting, balloons, and of course, food! Rabbi Berel Majesky spoke about the theme of the Art Event, and reiterated the message from Tanya Chapter 32: We all come from the same source; we all have One Father in Heaven. When we put aside our differences and that which separates us, we can truly unite with each other. The mural will be a permanent fixture on the streets of Brooklyn.

Special thanks to the Spritzers for hosting our mural on their building, the NYPD for closing the street, all the volunteers who came to help out at the event, and to Rochel Karp and Mimi Garelik for all of their hard work making this event possible.
