Excitement in the world of Chabad collecting: an extraordinary collection of historical items, serving as a vivid and moving testament to the sacred work of our Rebbes, is now up for auction. The collection, which features a wide variety of fascinating artifacts, offers a rare glimpse into intimate and historic moments, with particularly prominent items designated by experts as ‘exceedingly rare’.

Cashier’s Check from the 1930 Historical Journey

An item of the highest historical significance. An original cashier’s check given to the Admor the Rayatz during his historical journey in the USA. On verso of the check, the original handwritten English signature of the Rayatz: “Rabbi J. Schneersohn”.

The Rebbe’s Massa – the Bag of Pidyon Nefesh from 1991

A brown paper bag in which the Rebbe carried the leaves of the Pidyon Nefesh to the Tziyun during the summer of 1991. It is well-known that the Rebbe refused to receive help to carry this “Massa” to the Tziyun and the bag that remained there is a touching testimony to the Rebbe’s devotion to every Jew.

A “Sifat Chaim” Letter to the Chicago Community

An original letter from Adar 23, 1942, with the handwritten signature of the Rayatz. The letter was sent to the Chabad community of Chicago, following the Rebbe’s visit which was cut short due to the passing of his mother, the Rebbetzin Sterna Sarah. In the letter, the Rebbe blesses the members of the community with the famed blessing: “ישפיע להם השי”ת שפעת חיים וברכה מרובה בגשמיות וברוחניות”.

Kuntres and General Letter from the First Year of Nessi’ut

Letter from the first year of Nessi’ut, which was sent to the Gaon Chassid Rabbi Yeshaya Halevi Horowitz. The letter with additions handwritten by the Rebbe was sent with Kuntres Lag BaOmer – a rare item from before the era of the famed Chalukot, demonstrating the way in which the Rebbe infused the study of Pnimiyut HaTorah among the public.

The Source of “Derech Hamitzu’a” in Weddings

A must-have item for anyone who appreciates the Rebbe’s practical guidance. In the letter from Kislev 10, 1954, the Rebbe writes to the addressee about wedding expenses and establishes the well-known source for the Derech HaMitzu’a – to avoid debts and refrain from extravagance, in accordance with the approach of the Rambam and Pnimiyut HaTorah. The letter features handwritten corrections handwritten by the Rebbe.

The Musical Notes of Lechatchilah Ariber

First edition (Amsterdam, 1731) of the book Hon Ashir by the Mekubal Rabbi Emmanuel Chai Ricci. The book contains the musical notes, which according to Chabadic tradition, inspired the famed Niggun Lechatchilah Ariber that was composed by the Admor the Maharash.

“A Jew from Eretz Yisrael Needs a Banknote from Eretz Yisrael”

One Israeli Shekel (Old) given directly by the Rebbe, with confirmation by the recipient, who describes the Rebbe’s special smile and the words he said when giving the banknote.

Ge’ulah Balev: Historical Treasures for the Days of Tamuz 12-13

Alongside the rare items, the collection includes a series of touching items dedicated entirely to Chag Hage’ulah Tamuz 12-13, the days of the Admor the Rayatz’ liberation. Prominent among them is a wonderous and surprising general letter from Tamuz 1, 1950 – several days before the Nessi’ut – in which the Rebbe calls Chabad Chassidim to “Lehitva’ed on the days of Tamuz 12 and 13… and increase the actions and deeds of the Admor Shlita”. This letter, which is not in Igrot Kodesh, is offered with Kuntres Chag Hage’ulah from the same year.

The collection also includes a letter from the Rebbe’s office with the Kuntres from 1952 that was sent with it; a lengthy and touching letter from 1974 dealing with the importance of the Mivtza’im and with a blessing for Chag Hage’ulah, with the Rebbe’s handwritten signature; and a historical mimeographed copy of a letter by the Chassid Rabbi Eliyahu Chaim Althaus, with a tearful account of the events of the first Ge’ulah in 1927.

The collection ends with rare items given directly by the Rebbe, including a dollar bill with the inscription “י”ג תמוז קיבלתי דולר זה מהרבי”, and a letter confirming the Pidyon Nefesh was received which was sent in Tamuz 1991, informing that the Bakashot were read by the Tziyun – a touching indication of the Rebbe’s relentless Avodat Kodesh on the days of Ge’ulah.
