USC Chabad Unveils Newly Renovated Chabad House
Chabad at the University of Southern California has unveiled its newly expanded Chabad House in Los Angeles, more than doubling its usable space and adding new facilities for Jewish students • Read More, Photos
The renovated Chabad House, located on near the USC campus, has grown from approximately 5,500 square feet to 12,000 square feet. The facility now includes a larger dining room, a rooftop kosher restaurant and student housing.
USC Chabad was founded in 1999 and moved into its current location in 2002. Renovations began in 2012, but the project faced delays and challenges due to the building’s age—it is more than 135 years old—as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Co-directors Rabbi Dov and Runya Wagner said the expanded facility will allow Chabad to continue welcoming thousands of students each year.
USC Chabad currently serves approximately 2,500–3,000 students annually, with 250–350 students attending its weekly Shabbat dinners.
The grand opening featured university and community leaders, who highlighted the Chabad House as a home for Jewish students and the wider USC community. “Now comes the real question: What are we going to do with it?” Rabbi Wagner said at the opening, emphasizing that the completion of the building marks the beginning of the next stage of Chabad’s work on campus.
