A remarkable historic discovery has been made in the Chatzer of the Rabbeim in Lubavitch: an ancient water well that was dug in 1899 has been uncovered as part of the restoration work currently taking place at the site.
The historic well served over the years as a water source for the Rebbe Rashab and members of the Rabbeim’s household. It was also used as a source of water to help extinguish fires that broke out in the courtyard. For many years, the well remained buried underground, until it was rediscovered during the ongoing restoration work, at a depth of more than six meters.
During the excavation, the original wooden beams of the well were found, along with fresh water that continues to flow inside it to this day. Following its discovery, the historic well was restored and is now accessible to visitors who come to Lubavitch and the Chatzer of the Rabbeim.
The discovery of the well is part of extensive restoration and preservation efforts taking place throughout the historic Chatzer of the Rabbeim, aimed at preserving the sites and uncovering additional chapters in the lives of the Rabbeim in Lubavitch.
