Rabbi Aryeh and Chana Wells (née Laber), together with their son Yisroel, will establish the first Chabad House in Auburn, Alabama, this summer.
The new Chabad House will serve the growing Jewish student population at Auburn University, as well as the broader Jewish communities of Auburn and neighboring Opelika. It will offer Shabbos and Yom Tov meals, Torah classes, community events, and year-round programming.
The initiative follows years of outreach by Rabbi Sholom Posner of Chabad on Wheels, Alabama, who regularly visited Auburn to strengthen Jewish life in the area. As the university’s Jewish student population continued to grow, the need for a permanent Chabad presence became increasingly evident.
The Wells have been appointed under the direction of Rabbi Yossi Posner, head Shliach to Alabama.
Originally from Boynton Beach, Florida, Rabbi Wells is a graduate of Columbia University, where his involvement with Chabad on Campus inspired him to pursue yeshivah studies in Jerusalem and Brooklyn.
Chana Wells grew up in Rensselaer, New York, where her parents operate a Chabad House and a Jewish girls’ summer camp. An artist and educator, she has led painting workshops around the world.
The Wells family looks forward to building meaningful relationships and creating a warm, welcoming center for Jewish life in Auburn.
