Preparations have been completed at the Kosel ahead of Shavuos, as the Western Wall Heritage Foundation readies for the arrival of tens of thousands of mispallelim expected to visit throughout Yom Tov and the following Shabbos in remembrance of the aliyah l’regel.
Large crowds are expected for the traditional vasikin minyan on the morning of Shavuos, with many more anticipated throughout the day and over the adjoining Shabbos. Thousands are also expected to arrive on Motzaei Shabbos Isru Chag together with rabbonim, rebbes, and roshei yeshivah.
In preparation for the large crowds, additional Mechitzos have been installed in the upper plaza area to allow for expanded minyanim across the Kosel plaza. Organizers also noted that, thanks to recently donated Sifrei Torah, hundreds of minyanim will have access to Sifrei Torah during Yom Tov. In accordance with Kosel regulations, private Sifrei Torah will not be permitted inside the plaza.
Along the routes leading to the Kosel, Chesed organizations will distribute refreshments for visitors and worshippers. Following vasikin, a large Kiddush for the crowds will be held in cooperation with Colel Chabad, with each participant receiving an individual package containing grape juice, a Kiddush cup, pastries, and drinks in honor of Yom Tov.
Additional “Kiddusha Rabba” stations will also be expanded for the many visitors expected over Shabbos and Isru Chag.
The public is asked to maintain the kedusha of the Kosel and follow all police and security instructions to ensure safe and orderly access for the many thousands expected to attend.
