We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Dr. R’ Tzvi Thaler. A longtime resident of Crown Heights, passed away on Monday, Adar, 5786, after a long illness, in which he inspired many with his humility, positivity and dedication to yiddishkeit, despite his physical limitations.
He was 79 years old.
Tzvi was committed to learning chassidus, davening and attended many shiurim. Even years later, he would retell many of the Rebbe stories he heard in great detail.
He worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering for over 40 years, using his PhD in biostatistics for cancer research.
In a letter to the Rebbe before his wedding, he asked for a bracha to be able to help find a cure.
During that time working there, he did many of the Rebbe’s mivtzoyim, notably Mivtza Mezuzah and Matzah for the other Jewish staff and patients.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Blima, his children Leah Caroline — New Haven, Devorie Chaddad — Crown Heights, Dov Ber Thaler — Sunrise, FL, Chaya Nejar — Baltimore, MD, Shani Bennish — Crown Heights, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Zeesel Leah (Carolyn) Younger.
He was predeceased by his son Baruch Thaler OBM.
The family is very grateful to the community and volunteers for their support throughout his illness.
The levaya and shiva information to be announced.
