In just a few hours, as the fast comes to an end in New York, Eshel Hachnosas Orchim will provide a full meal for thousands of guests staying in Crown Heights. This is an opportunity to make a generous donation toward Hachnosas Orchim while fulfilling the Chazal’s teaching of “Agra D’Ta’anisa”—the custom of giving charity on a fast day equivalent to the meals one would have eaten had they not been fasting.
The Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach emphasized that through Agra D’Ta’anisa, the fast and Tzedakah are elevated to Kedushah, and that the money designated for the meals “should not remain in one’s pocket.”
It is customary to give for each family member over Bar/Bas Mitzvah age.
