Tears of pain, pride, and overwhelming joy filled the Kosel and the Binyanei HaUma hall this week as 125 orphaned boys from across Eretz Yisroel, including children orphaned in the recent wars and the Simchas Torah massacre, celebrated their Bar Mitzvahs in a moving series of events organized by Colel Chabad • Read More, Photos
A moving Bar Mitzvah music video titled “Meine Tefillin” was released by Yeshayahu Gopin, son of the Shluchim in Obolon, Kyiv. The clip tells a heartfelt story set in a Shul in Berdichev, among simple Yidden. During Davening, one of the Mispalelim put on Tefillin, but they suddenly fell to the ground. His heart broke, and from that pain emerges the outcry of Reb Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, the famed defender of the Jewish people, revealing the eternal bond between a Jew and his Father in Heaven • Watch

The event was organized as part of the ongoing activities of the local Chabad House, led by shliach Rabbi Yosef Rechimi, with shluchim and supporters mobilizing to make the occasion possible, including providing both ‘Bar Mitzva boys’ with high-quality Chabad Tefillin • Full Story, Photos

Question: When boys receive money as gifts upon their Bar Mitzvah, to whom should the money go? It seems to me the money should either go to a savings account available later for educational purposes or such, or go to the parents who covered Bar Mitzvah expenses like the kiddush or party. At the very least, the money should be part of a money management plan to educate the 13-year-old, rather than being spent impulsively on immature desires. What do you say to a boy who insists, “It is my money to do as I please”? • Aharon Schmidt replies, from the Living Jewish’s Farbrengen column • Read More
