In Lubavitch of yore, the Mitzvos would be “sold” on Shabbos Bereishis, with the Gabai, while wearing a Shtraimel, auctioning off the Aliyos, the opening of the Aron, the Sifrei Torah for Kol Nidrei, and the other “Kibbudim.”

Many of these honors come with great merit and Brachos, such as children, wealth, and long life, and no sum is too large to secure such Brachos in the Rebbe’s Shul, Lubavitch She’b’Lubavitch. All the revenue would be sanctioned towards the Rebbe’s Shul.

In preparation for the publication of the full list of mitzvos sold on Shabbos Bereishis in 770, we are publishing the amounts from the highest sales this year:

The right to hagbah and gelila of the Sefer Torah on Shabbos for the entire year was purchased for a record $100,000

Pesicha for Niilah on Yom Kippur sold for a whopping $85,000.

Maftir Yona was sold for another record $73,000. (Last year it sold for “just” $55,000 and $32,000 in 5784).

Opening the Aron for Tefilas Geshem on Shmini Atzeres sold for $43,000.

Opening the Aron for Kol Nidrei was sold for $30,000.
