CHARLOTTE — Sunday night marked the start of Chanukah. Jewish people across the world will spend the next eight nights lighting their menorahs as a symbol of light and peace.

Charlotte’s Chabad Center for Jewish Life hosted a Chanukah festival at Symphony Park in south Charlotte, North Carolina to mark the occasion.

Rabbi Yossi Groner said Chanukah is about coming out of the darkness. “It’s a very important holiday in Judaism, because it speaks about the hope, it speaks about the candle that is never extinguished, so people relate to it, especially in these times,” he said.
