The United States, Israel, and Lebanon jointly announced overnight (Thursday) that they have reached a formal ceasefire agreement, following an intensive round of negotiations mediated by the U.S. administration.

According to the joint statement, the ceasefire is contingent upon a complete halt to hostilities by Hezbollah and the withdrawal of all Hezbollah operatives from areas south of the Litani River.

As part of the agreement, the sides will establish a number of security “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon, where the Lebanese Armed Forces will assume exclusive control and responsibility for maintaining order. The initiative is intended to prevent the return of non-state armed groups and serve as a foundation for broader security and diplomatic discussions.

The parties stated that they harbor no hostile intentions toward one another and rejected efforts by foreign powers or terrorist organizations to dictate Lebanon’s future through violence and instability.

Negotiators also discussed a wider security framework aimed at the long-term dismantlement of armed militias and preventing their reestablishment.

Israeli representatives reiterated that lasting security depends on the removal of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and the disarmament of the terror organization throughout Lebanon.

The joint statement further included condemnation of Iran’s activities across the region, accusing Tehran of undermining Middle East stability through the funding and direction of proxy groups and other acts of aggression.

Addressing the agreement, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, stressed that the ceasefire does not grant Hezbollah immunity from future action.

“If Hezbollah believes the outcome of these talks provides it with protection, it is mistaken,” he said. “Israel will continue to act whenever necessary to defend its citizens and national security.”
