Two men, aged 22 and 25, were arrested in Sydney’s eastern suburbs after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a handgun at Yidden leaving Shabbos davening at a Chabad Shul in Double Bay.
The incident took place on Shabbos, as mispallelim were exiting the Shul, when the suspects allegedly aimed the weapon in the direction of those gathered outside.
The area is part of Sydney’s active Jewish community, not far from Bondi Beach, where the deadly attack on a Chabad Chanukah gathering took place this year.
Australian police later confirmed that the weapon was in fact a replica firearm.
Despite this, authorities stressed the seriousness of the incident, and both suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged in the coming days.
Police are continuing to investigate and are taking statements from witnesses who were present at the scene at the time of the frightening incident.
