The mitzvah tank commissioned and used by the Jewish Russian Community Centre of Ontario has become somewhat of a local icon in Toronto. That means it was no surprise when the tank pulled up to a Pro-Israel rally in Toronto’s Mel Lastman Square.
The tank was manned by shluchim, Rabbis Avrohom Yusewitz, Yisrolik Zaltzman, and Shmuel Neft, each shluchim to the Russian speaking communities in their respective neighborhoods in the Greater Toronto Area. Together with them was Rabbi Yossi Vorovitch, director of Chabad of Georgina, a suburb of Toronto.
The shluchim were joined by tens of other shluchim, Anash, and bochurim who arrived to heed the Rebbe’s call to be active in mivtza Tefillin in support of Eretz Yisroel. As chassidic music blasted from the tank’s speakers, the Lubavitch contingent laid Tefillin on hundreds on yidden who came out to support Jewish pride, including those who had never put Tefillin on before in their lives.
