The Miracles of the War: Hashem’s Protection Over His People
Throughout these three years of war, alongside the tremendous sacrifices and painful losses, Klal Yisroel has witnessed countless events that can only be explained as open miracles and reminders of Hashem’s constant protection over His people. From massive missile barrages that caused far less damage than feared to soldiers surviving seemingly impossible situations, these events have strengthened the emunah and bitachon of Jews around the world. While the pain of every loss remains, the many lives spared and the extraordinary events witnessed throughout the war remind us that we are never alone, and that even in the darkest moments, Hashem watches over His people.
Some of the Most Remarkable Events
Iran’s April 2024 missile and drone attack: Iran launched more than 300 aerial threats toward Israel. According to the IDF, 99% were intercepted, and none of the approximately 170 drones or more than 30 cruise missiles entered Israeli territory. A 10-year-old girl was severely injured by shrapnel, and an IDF base sustained minor infrastructure damage.
Soldiers who survived the October 7 attacks: The IDF has published testimonies from soldiers who endured terrifying attacks on military bases near Gaza, including accounts of bullets narrowly missing them as they tried to reach safety. These survivors’ accounts have moved many people to reflect on the lives that were spared amid the devastation.
The extraordinary recovery of wounded soldiers: According to the IDF’s three-year war report, more than 70% of soldiers wounded during the fighting recovered, completed rehabilitation and returned to active service. Their recovery represents a remarkable source of hope amid the enormous toll of the war.
There are many more miracles not listed.
For Am Yisrael, these events are more than military statistics or stories of survival. They are reminders of the words of Tehillim: “Hinei lo yanum v’lo yishan Shomer Yisrael”—“Behold, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.” While we continue to mourn every life lost and pray for the safety of our soldiers and all of Klal Yisroel, the many extraordinary events witnessed throughout the war strengthen our emunah that Hashem is watching over His people. Our response must be to increase in Torah, Tefillah, Tzedakah and acts of Ahavas Yisroel, and to Daven for the ultimate protection and Geulah with the coming of Moshiach now.
