“This is Bondi Beach” – Chanukah Menorah Exhibit in Tzfas Cheder Honors Sydney Kedoshim
During Chanukah, a Menorah exhibit was held at Talmud Torah Ohr Menachem Tzfas. One display by two talmidim was dedicated to the Kedoshim who were murdered al kiddush Hashem in the attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia • Full Story, Video
Rabbi Yaron Ari Mierowsky of Tzfas, the father of the Talmidim who created the display shared with Chabadinfo:
“Hearing the horrible massacre in my home country Australia, and the subsequent hours of following up friends and family, some of whom were present, some of whose relatives were killed, was horrendous for many of us. As much as I tried to maintain an environment of a happy Chanukah to my family, the impact of the event was very much felt at home.
“Monday, I see my two boys, Yosef Yitzchak (9) and Menachem Mendel (6), making a Chanuka Menorah from ‘plastelina’. I remembered they had a competition coming up in school, and were planning to make a menorah lighting on a beach. As they were putting the ‘sand’ down, they told me this is ‘Bondi Beach’. I was perturbed – what? My wife and I, still not sure what was going on, started suggesting ambulances, police cars – you know, boys…
“My kids told me – no, it’s tonight’s lighting! It took me another few minutes to understand, they are building a Bondi Beach Chanukah lighting with Melech Hamoshiach! Tonight’s lighting – with the Rebbe MH” M, Rabbi Eli Shlanger HY” D and all the other Kedoshim HY” D!
“Instead of me bringing the message of Chanukah to my kids this year, they brought it to me. Moshiach NOW!”
