Shock in Jerusalem: Former Chief Rabbi’s Shul Set on Fire

Early Sunday morning, the “Or Chaviv” Shul in Jerusalem’s Sanhedria neighborhood, led by former Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, was deliberately set on fire. Security footage showed a suspect entering around 3 a.m.; soon after, the fire began. Seforim were burned and the rabbi’s chair was damaged. Graffiti and a painted Tzelem were found nearby • Full Story, Photos

Fire investigators confirmed it was arson, and Shin Bet is involved in the investigation.

Political and religious leaders across the spectrum condemned the attack as a hate crime. Prime Minister Netanyahu called it “a heinous act,” while President Herzog labeled it “a vile crime that must be met with swift justice.” Shas leader Aryeh Deri said it was a terror attack targeting both Rabbi Yosef and traditional Jewish values.

Police are investigating, and no injuries were reported
