Troop movements, mass reserve mobilization, intensive training in live-fire zones, unexpected guests — and in the midst of it all, “Operation Shaagat Ari” was launched. The initiative was led by my brother-in-law, Rabbi Mendy Klein, director of Chabad of Eilat, with dozens mobilized across all fronts, including Shluchim and Chassidei Chabad residents of Eilat, Temimim from Yeshivos Chabad throughout Eretz HaKodesh, and my own dear family.

Parallel to the extensive Purim activities with thousands of soldiers stationed throughout the region, thousands more heard the Megillah and participated in Seudos Purim at the Chabad Houses of Eilat.

Joining the local celebrants were many visitors who had arrived to spend Shabbos in Eilat. When the war began, they extended their stay in the relatively quiet southern city, choosing to celebrate Purim together with Chabad.

Even here, there were isolated sirens, one on Purim before midday and another at midnight on Motzei Purim. Yet despite the alarms and countless unplanned Megillah readings, Mivtza Purim in Eilat and the surrounding region was a tremendous success. Without question, it brought great nachas ruach to the Rebbe.
