Singer Mendy J has released a powerful new music video, “Hurting with Insanity,” together with Leibel Lazaroff, a survivor of the Bondi terror attack. Dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Eli Schlanger HY”D and the other kedoshim, the song is a moving tribute to faith, resilience, and the enduring light of the Jewish people.
The project is deeply personal for Mendy. As a child, while struggling to cope with his brother’s serious illness, music became his emotional outlet. During that time, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, who learned with him through the Ach HaGadol program, defended and encouraged him after hearing others mock his dream of becoming a singer. “One day you’ll see, he will become a singer,” Rabbi Eli told them—a moment Mendy says stayed with him for years and ultimately inspired him to dedicate this song to his memory.
While Leibel Lazaroff was recovering in the hospital following the Bondi terror attack, Mendy shared the project with him. Moved by the song’s message and the opportunity to honor Rabbi Eli and the other victims, Leibel agreed to join the recording, lending his voice and personal story to the production.
Composed by Yitzy Bald, produced by Yoel Weiss, and directed by Nataniel Khafizov, the song blends heartfelt English lyrics with the timeless prayer “Habeit Mishamayim U’Re’eh,” giving voice to the pain, hope, and unwavering faith of the Jewish people.
