Fire and Rescue Services declared a “firestorm emergency,” calling in over 120 firefighting teams and aircraft from across the country. The IDF has been mobilized to assist, and Israel has requested international aid. Firefighting aircraft from Greece and Cyprus are expected to arrive.
Five major fire fronts remain active, leading to the closure of several highways, including Route 1 and Route 3. At least 12 people have been treated for smoke inhalation, and residents were seen fleeing vehicles surrounded by smoke and flames.
In connection with the fires, two Arabs have been arrested under suspicion of intentionally starting the blazes.
Public events requiring fire department presence have been canceled, with National Security Minister Itamar Ben–Gvir stating, “We must prioritize saving lives over performances.”
Emergency efforts continue, with additional aircraft and rescue equipment being deployed. Authorities are urging the public to stay away from affected areas as firefighting crews work to contain the blaze.
