Bandits of robbers loot the abandoned houses of the Jews of Kyiv. Food, fuel and medicine prices are rising, thousands of refugees are gathering in the Chabad community building. Passover is coming and Rabbi Yonatan Markowitz is calling for help.

Last Erev Shabbat, a building in a Jewish neighborhood in Kiev was bombed and hundreds of Jews in the war zones, including dozens of Holocaust survivors, were forced to leave their homes and reach the Chabad community building in Kyiv.

Rabbi Yonatan Markowitz, with the help of the Chabad Rescue Organization, made sure in advance to provide mattresses, food and medicine for the thousands of refugees who are unable to leave the country. The end of the war is not in sight and the stock is running out.

Against the background of the heavy shelling on Saturday evening, Rabbi Markowitz said that the thing that moved his family the most was the knowledge that the Jewish people was embracing them, especially the Jews from Israel, who sent them very large aid.

“Help from Israel gives us the strength to continue despite the difficult and complex situation we are in. I personally thank each and every one of the donors. We cannot afford to leave when there are thousands of Jews in Kyiv. Those who remain here are mainly Holocaust survivors, families with children, people who are not In the health line, who can not leave – they have nowhere to go and no way to leave, “says Rabbi Markowitz.

Against the background of the voices of war, there are those who take advantage of the abandoned houses left behind by thousands of Jews. Bandits of robbers roam the streets, taking over the houses and looting the property.

Food, drug and fuel prices have risen significantly in recent days. “On a normal day, a meal costs about $ 20. The rise in prices makes it very difficult for us,” shares Rabbi Markovich. “What worries us is the upcoming Passover. We are preparing to purchase basic products for the thousands of Jews in Kyiv, Matzos, meat and wine so we can have Passover together, feel the privilege of being free and come soon to Eretz Israel”.
