A major controversy erupted in recent days following remarks made during a live broadcast by the military correspondent of the Israeli website mako. Speaking about his uncle, son of Holocaust survivors, he described how the uncle moved to Germany, married a non-Jewish local woman, and started a family there.

The correspondent referred to this personal story as a “victory of life,” suggesting it represented a kind of closure or triumph over the legacy of the Nazis by rebuilding life in Germany through raising a non Jewish family.

The comments prompted strong responses from the organization Yad L’Achim, which has long been active in combating assimilation and missionary activity. The group stated that the framing of intermarriage as a “victory” constitutes a deep affront to the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

In an official letter sent to the CEO of Channel 12 News, Yad L’Achim demanded a public clarification and apology. “Presenting intermarriage as an achievement or victory is a profound insult to the memory of the six million and to Jewish identity across generations,” the letter stated.

The organization further wrote that it was speaking “not in its own name, but in the name of six million Jews whose ashes lie across Europe, whose only ‘crime’ was being Jewish,” adding that the portrayal of assimilation as triumph is “not a victory over the Holocaust, but the tragic continuation of its goals in another form.”

Yad L’Achim called on the network to issue a clear and unequivocal disavowal of the remarks, to publish an apology, and to provide a platform for a more responsible discussion of Jewish continuity and identity.

The organization concluded by urging Channel 12 News to clarify its editorial position and set firm boundaries regarding the public discourse on such sensitive issues.
