Lod Mayor Attorney Yair Revivo, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Reuven Lankri, who oversees the city’s welfare portfolio, visited the home of Rabbi Menashe and Chaya Giller during Shiva, following the tragic passing of their five-year-old son, Betzalel David Giller OBM.

Betzalel David was rushed to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in critical condition after he was left inside a vehicle during the hot August weather and was later found in critical condition. Despite intensive resuscitation efforts and medical treatment, doctors were tragically forced to declare his passing. The five-year-old was laid to rest in the children’s section of the Lod cemetery.

The mayor and his delegation spent an extended period with the grieving parents, listening to them share memories of their young son and hearing about the family’s difficult struggle following the tragedy.

Also joining the visit was former city council member Jamal Abu-Siam, who lost his own son in a tragic traffic accident approximately three years ago. He joined the delegation out of a desire to offer personal support and strengthen the family.

Following the visit, Revivo said that he left the Giller home feeling strengthened, deeply moved by the parents’ faith and their ability to face the devastating loss with belief in Hashem and the understanding that everything is ultimately for the good.

The mayor also pledged to commemorate Betzalel David’s memory in the courtyard of the Nissan Shul in central Lod, and promised to work toward advancing the renovation and expansion of the Shul.

The tragic death has deeply shaken the Chabad community in Lod and the Jewish community at large.
