Their world came to a screeching halt.
Imagine losing your best friend.
Imagine losing your role model.
Imagine losing your father.
Imagine losing your everything.
For the family of Reb Mendel Plotkin, this is the tragic reality, and all in 1 day.
He was their world, their everything.
Reb Mendel was a friend to all, and a pillar of his community.
He leaves behind a large family, and an even larger extended family, comprised of those who knew him and loved him.
“This one really hits home,” a community activist stated. “This happened so quickly, the shock and devastation hasn’t fully set in yet.”
To the Jewish community of Toronto, he will be remembered for his smile.
A smile truly capable of lighting up the room.
A smile, now no more.
Our hearts and minds immediately shift, however, to his dear family. A family shattered, left with nothing but questions.
“What will tomorrow bring?”
“Will we be able to go to summer camp?”
“Who will take me to the father/son Melaveh Malka at school?”
The reality is, only the Almighty can answer these questions, and we know that G-d takes personal responsibility for the well-being of orphans and widows.
Our job, however, is to create the appropriate “Keli”.
A fund has been set up organized by a group of respected community members, to assure that Reb Mendel’s family is cared for, for as long as possible.
