In a ceremony held on Tuesday in Chisinau, Moldova’s capital, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to the chairman of the Jewish community in the country, Rabbi Zushe Abelsky.

The certificate was awarded during a special event where the Jewish community led by Rabbi Abelsky donated medical accessories to hospitals in Chisinau. In recent times, especially given the influx of refugees from Ukraine, many medical centers are collapsing under the burden and burden of care. The equipment was sent by the “Global Jewish” organization headed by Rabbi Eliezer Avtzon.

The event was attended by representatives of the local Ministry of Health and the top of the head for Emergency Medicine led by Chairman Mikhail Chokanu, the Chief Rabbi of Chisinau, as well as the Chief Rabbi and Shliach Rabbi Mendy Axelrod.

Those present at the ceremony praised the work of the Jewish community led by Rabbi Abelsky in helping the residents of the country as well as in taking in refugees and said: “You are a great example of caring for others. Your community was the first to mobilize for the refugees and now for the sick and we are grateful for that.”

Moldova, which is considered the poorest country in Europe, also faces fears of a Russian invasion and the geopolitical situation affects its citizens and causes an uncertain future.

Rabbi Abelsky said: “I am happy that we were able to help the residents of Moldova. My father, Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, who founded and revived the Jewish community in the country more than 30 years ago, established a magnificent infrastructure here and thanks to it, the Jews of Moldova are proud of their Judaism and enjoy equality. European countries must learn from the tolerance and acceptance of the other in Moldova.”
