In a surprise announcement, a Jewish girl notified the social worker assigned to her by Yad L’Achim that she had decided to end her relationship with an Arab youth. The reason? The terror attack in Tel Aviv last month that killed three people.

“I wanted to share some good news,” the girl wrote. “I broke up with him – for good. And you know what clicked for me, what made me understand that this was the right thing? The terror attack on Dizengoff. I was there, in the same building, seven minutes before the shooting began!

“I felt that G-d was giving me a sign as to what could happen to me.”

In a subsequent telephone conversation she explained that she understood that such a relationship had no future, and that she herself could be the victim of a murderous attack perpetrated by the Arab with whom she was involved, as has happened in similar circumstances.

A Yad L’Achim official said: “In the wake of the wave of terror attacks Israel is experiencing, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of call from girls involved with Arabs. Bitter experience shows that the violence directed at these women is worse during tense security periods. We call on anyone who finds herself in this situation, or anyone who knows of Jewish girls in this situation, to call us as soon as possible. We will help provide all needs, with sensitivity and professionalism, and, of course, with complete discretion.”
