Meirav Leshem Gonen, mother of former hostage Romi Gonen, visited the Jewish Community Center in Cyprus, where the community’s massive Sukkas HaAchdus stands.
The center is located on the very street where, during Romi’s captivity, Meirav stood alongside members of the Jewish community at a large rally, praying for her daughter’s safe return.
During the visit, she met with Cyprus’s Chief Rabbi and Chabad Shliach, Rabbi Zev Raskin. Also present were Israel’s Deputy Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr. Kobi Waller; Mr. Yaron Zaluf, chairman of the Jewish Community of Cyprus’s Circle of Friends; and Rabbi Shneur Zalman Levitin, Chabad Shliach in Larnaca.
Returning to the same place after Romi’s release, Meirav described the visit as a powerful and emotional closing of a circle. Once, she had stood there praying and holding on to hope; this time, she returned to recite the blessing over the Daled Minim, expressing gratitude for her daughter’s return. She also emphasized the Daled Minim’s symbolism of unity among the Jewish people.
She concluded the visit with a prayer and blessing for unity, peace, and better days ahead for the Jewish people.
