As Crown Heights prepares for the upcoming Simchas Beis HaShoeva celebrations, the Crown Heights Beis Din, Rabbonim, mosdos, community organizations, and security agencies have issued a joint community announcement calling for continued cooperation to ensure that the celebrations remain safe, orderly, and uplifting.
The letter notes the success of last year’s measures, which were introduced in response to safety concerns raised by the community and the NYPD. The policy prohibiting street vending along Kingston Avenue will once again be strictly enforced.
No street vending of any kind will be permitted along the entire length of Kingston Avenue, from Empire Boulevard to Eastern Parkway. The NYPD and private security will enforce the policy, and all stands, booths, and tables placed in the street will be removed.
The community announcement also calls on parents to ensure that their children comply with the regulations, emphasizing that keeping the streets clear is essential for the safety of the large crowds expected to attend, as well as to allow emergency and law-enforcement personnel access when needed.
The letter stresses that the policy is being continued at the request and strong encouragement of the neighborhood’s Rabbonim, schools, community safety organizations, and the NYPD.
Among those signing the announcement are Crown Heights Beis Din Rabbonim Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Y. Braun, alongside representatives of the Simchas Beis HaShoeva Committee, Vaad Hakohol – CHJCC, Oholei Torah, United Lubavitcher Yeshiva, Or Menachem, Tomchei Temimim Ocean Parkway, CH Shomrim, Bais Rivkah, Darchei Menachem, Beis Chaya Mushka, Bnos Menachem, the NYPD, CH Shmira, JFA, and Beis Shmuel Chabad.
The announcement concludes with a Bracha that the measures will help make Simchas Beis HaShoeva safer and more uplifting, in keeping with the Kiddush Hashem envisioned by the Rebbe, and with a Tefillah that the community should merit to celebrate together in Yerushalayim with the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu.
