Coral Springs Chabad Distributes Groceries

Feeding South Florida estimates that food insecurity ranges up to 13.6 percent across Broward County. A recent report suggests that 18.9 percent of children in South Florida are food insecure, leaving 236,270 children going to bed hungry.
These figures have only increased during the COVID-19 health crisis.
Since March, the Chabad of Coral Springs has been providing free groceries several times a week for curbside pickup, including fresh produce and bags of cut romaine lettuce, coleslaw, and broccoli, as well as kosher items for families.
Rabbi Avraham Friedman estimates that the Chabad has donated thousands of boxes and packages of food over the last few months.
“We are doing our best to make sure Coral Springs residents do not go hungry,” he said, adding that they are committed to doing whatever they can, so even more people can be fed.
Volunteers have also prepared hot meals for the elderly community and Shabbat To Go kits with fresh homemade Challah (bread) baked by the Rabbi’s two daughters along with chicken soup for those in need.
There is something truthful about how intrinsic food is to Judaism, which is evident now more than ever. To celebrate the Jewish holiday Shavuot in May, the Chabad organized free boxes with cheesecake, made by the Rabbi’s son, and ice cream toppings, along with crafts and games for kids.
Rabbi Friedman was thankful for the volunteers, food banks, and kind supporters who have partnered with them, doing this purely out of the goodness of their hearts.
“I am especially grateful to my colleagues from other South Florida Chabads, who have been at the forefront of reaching out and helping the community.”
This includes Rabbis Rabbi Yankie and Chana Denburg who give out homemade Challah to the community every Friday — freshly baked by Chana.
Recently, the Chabad also showed appreciation to first responders and teamed up with Stefano’s Kosher Catering to deliver dinner to the Coral Springs Police Department.
“During this time when the nation is struggling with pain, acts of kindness are unifying,” said Rabbi Friedman. “I hope these acts of kindness bring many blessings, peace, and harmony to all diverse members of our community.”
