According to initial reports, the attack began with the launch of the missile toward Eilat. Within minutes, the assault expanded into a heavy barrage directed at central Israel, the Shfela region, and the Shomron, sending millions of residents rushing to shelters as sirens sounded across wide areas.
A cluster missile is considered especially dangerous because it releases multiple smaller sub-munitions while in the air. Instead of a single impact point, the weapon can scatter fragments over a wide area, significantly increasing the risk of damage and injury. Because the missile breaks apart mid-flight, intercepting it is particularly complex for air-defense systems, making successful interception far more challenging than with a standard rocket.
Despite the difficulty, the missile was intercepted by the air-defense systems of the Israel Defense Forces. During the interception process, shrapnel fell in parts of central Israel. Emergency services reported that two people sustained light injuries from falling fragments.
Officials noted that the successful interception prevented what could have been a far more serious incident.
Observers pointed to the clear miracle that, despite the dangerous nature of the weapon and the wide areas placed under threat, casualties and damage remained minimal.
Security forces continue to monitor the situation as tensions remain high and defense systems stay on alert.
