This past Sunday history was made in Melbourne. A Sefer Torah was being given for the first time in 100 years to Melbourne’s Downtown City Area. The Sefer Torah was given by Mr. Sam Briskin and his family in loving memory of Mr. Mark Briskin, OB”M, to Chabad of Melbourne CBD and welcomed by its Shliach, Rabbi Chaim Herzog.

The Sefer Torah was completed by the Sofer, Rabbi Eli Gutnick in the Block Arcade where a large sector of the Jewish Community attended.

This was followed by singing and dancing on Collins Street accompanying the Sefer Torah to the Melbourne Town Hall in the center of the City.

A catered Seudah took place in the Melbourne Town Hall where Rabbi Herzog addressed the audience and was followed by Mr. David Southwick, Member for Caulfield who spoke and danced with the Yeshivah Gedollah Shluchim to the accompaniment of live music, this encouraged the crowd to get into the act and created an atmosphere of liveliness and happiness.
