Hundreds Gather for Toronto Siyum Harambam

On Beis Iyar, the Chabad community of Toronto gathered to celebrate the completion of another cycle of Rambam study at the Sephardic Kehila Centre.

The large celebration was joined by the city’s Rabbonim, as well as hundreds of community members.

Moderating the event was Rabbi Avraham Man, mashpia at the Lubavitch Yeshiva of Toronto. He opened the event with inviting Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum, senior Shliach in Toronto, to recite kapital Chof of Tehillim for the success of the celebration as well as for a refuah sheleima of Rabbi Dovid Shuchat, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Landau and Rabbi Akiva Wagner.

Yosef Borenstein was then called upon to perform the siyum on Sefer Hamitzvos.

The MC then invited the Shul’s Rov and Mara D’Asra, Rabbi David Kadosh, spoke about the greatness that thousands of Chabad Chasidim worldwide learn Rambam every day.

Rabbi Yehoshua Firer, one of Torontos Rabbonim then joined the event.

Rabbi Mann then concluded the Rambam cycle by reading the last halacha of Mishnah Torah infusing it with the Rebbe’s commentary. He then explained that the Rambam consists of 83 sets of halachos, which is the gematria of machla (illness). And through learning Rambam consistently one merits good health.

He then invited Rabbi Yitzchak Chakak to begin the 43rd cycle of Mishnah Torah. Rabbi Chakak elaborated on the importance of learning Halacha everyday.

Then, the guest speaker Rabbi Menachem Mendel Raskin, shliach to Cote S. Luc in Montreal gave a historical overview of the Rebbe’s takana, followed by an impassioned address on the importance of daily Rambam study in order to bring about the coming of Moshiach.

The MC Rabbi Mann concluded the event by encouraging the audience to learn Rambam daily by emphasizing the importance of the Rambam to the Rebbe.

A memento was distributed to all participants entitled “On the Teachings of Rambam.”
