Beitar Yerushalayim Fans Receive Warm Welcome from Chabad Cyprus

Hundreds of BeitarYerushalayim supporters who traveled to Larnaca, Cyprus, for the team’s match against AEK Larnaca—which Beitar won—were warmly welcomed and assisted by Chabad of Cyprus, which organized a full range of spiritual and practical services throughout the week of Tisha B’Av.
Under the leadership of Rabbi Zev Raskin, Chabad of Cyprus prepared extensively for the arrival of the large number of Israeli visitors. The on-the-ground operation was led by the Rebbe’s Shliach in Larnaca, Rabbi Shneur Levitin, together with his wife, members of the local Jewish community, and numerous volunteers, all working tirelessly to ensure every Jew felt at home, even while away from Eretz Yisroel.
Beginning early in the morning, Shacharis Minyanim were arranged for both the team’s supporters and players. Later in the day, a Minchah Minyan was also held with broad participation.
At the same time, tefillin stands were set up near the stadium, where the Shluchim helped thousands of fans perform the mitzvah of tefillin before the match.
As the conclusion of the Tisha B’Av fast approached, Chabad completed a large-scale logistical operation to distribute thousands of sandwiches, along with bottles of water and soft drinks, enabling both the fans and the players to break their fast immediately after nightfall.
Rabbi Levitin said, “When thousands of Jews arrive in Cyprus on a fast day, it is our responsibility to care for all of their needs—both spiritually and physically. It was inspiring to witness the unity and the desire of so many Jews to Daven, put on Tefillin, and preserve the sanctity of the day, even while traveling for a soccer match.”
Chabad of Cyprus noted that the initiative is part of the Shluchim’s year-round activities serving the tens of thousands of Israeli and Jewish visitors who travel to the island each year, providing assistance with every aspect of Jewish life with dedication and Ahavas Yisroel.
