Barak Grossberg Releases Cover in Memory of Rabbi Avi Piamenta, OBM

In honor of the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, Chabad singer-songwriter and guitarist Barak Grossberg presents a refreshing new rendition of the beloved hit Osim Teshuvah, dedicated to the memory of the late Chabad singer and flutist Rabbi Avi Piamenta, OBM, who played a pivotal role in inspiring Barak and many others to return to Yidishkeit • Read More, Listen

The song “Osim Teshuvah”, written by guitarist Danny Mamon, has been performed by various artists over the years, most famously by Rabbi Avi Piamenta, OBM, who passed away suddenly about three months ago, leaving many in shock and grief.

Rabbi Avi, OBM, was a beloved Chabad figure who, along with his brother Yossi, OBM, was close to The Rebbe in the late 1970s. The two often performed for the Rebbe at 770 and played a significant role in spreading Chassidic music and Chabad activities worldwide.

Barak, who recently returned from an extensive U.S. and Canada tour at Chabad houses for the month of Elul, delivers an innovative version of the song in memory of Rabbi Avi Piamente, OBM. Avi had inspired Barak to return to Torah and Mitzvos following a Yud-Tes Kislev performance at a Chabad house in Tel Aviv, held under his own home, which opened Barak’s heart to spirituality for the first time.

The shared story of Barak and Rabbi Avi is captured in a stunning music video filmed in Kfar Chabad, originally released about four years ago alongside Barak’s original song “OMG”, which gained international recognition.

For the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, Barak continues this musical connection with a moving cover of “Osim Teshuvah”, inspired by a passage from the Talmud, Sanhedrin: “Everything depends only on repentance and good deeds,” a teaching the Rebbe emphasized hundreds of times, particularly in 1991–1992.

Just three months ago, Barak released a new album, “Rotzeh Leheraga” (“I Want to Relax”), whose title track has amassed over half a million views and widespread radio play. Upon learning of Rabbi Avi’s passing, Barak felt compelled to honor their special connection with this heartfelt tribute.
