Ilon Heitner Releases an Emotional New Single Inspired by the Rebbe’s Call to End Exile
Renowned singer and composer Ilon Heitner has unveiled a striking new single, “Ad Matai,” a fusion of reggae rhythms and Chassidic soul, delivering a powerful plea to end the darkness of exile. With thought-provoking lyrics and an unforgettable melody, the song merges the timeless cry of the Jewish people with the harsh reality of today’s struggles.
The inspiration for the song comes from the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s repeated call for Jews to cry out to Hashem with urgency: “Ad Mosai?!”—Until when will we remain in this exile, suffering its pain and hardship? In this track, Heitner channels this plea, intertwining it with the anguish of the current war, creating a piece that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
A Musical Journey Rooted in Passion and Purpose
Music has always been at the heart of Ilon Heitner’s life. From a young age, he was drawn to it, though his passion faded in his teenage years. That changed when he picked up the oud, an instrument that reignited his love for music. After his service in the IDF, he pursued music studies at Hed College in Tel Aviv, later continuing his education in the United States, where he earned a master’s degree in music composition. Heitner composed for various ensembles and orchestras, culminating in a full opera based on Reb Nachman of Breslov’s “The Tale of the Prayer Master.”
Upon returning to Israel, he found his way to Torah and Chassidus, embracing a new spiritual path. Over the years, he began composing music inspired by Chassidic teachings, including an annual niggun in honor of his Mashpia, Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh. Eventually, he expanded his work to include original compositions, blending his diverse musical influences.
A Dream Realized with a Powerful Message
“Ad Matai” is a song that has been years in the making. “For a long time, I had dreadlocks—until I joined the army,” Heitner recalls. “I always dreamed of writing a reggae song. When I was younger, I never imagined it would actually happen.” Now, that dream has materialized—not just as a reggae track, but as a deeply meaningful anthem of longing and hope.
The song reaches its emotional peak as it concludes with the Rebbe’s own voice crying out ‘Ad Matai’—Until when? This final moment transforms the song from mere music into a soul-stirring call to action, a demand for the ultimate redemption.
In a time of uncertainty and pain, Ilon Heitner’s “Ad Matai” offers a melody of resilience, faith, and an urgent reminder that the time for Geulah is now.
