Sunday night, 6th Chanukah licht was the big kids night at the Giant Menorah at Golders Green Station. This Menorah was the first Public Menorah in London, it is being lit for the 31st year.
The kids night, attracted nearly 2000 people, from all sectors of the community. It was a massive Kiddush Shem Lubavitch. 12 children from all over London said the pessukim and sang Sheyiboneh. Rabbi Mendel Gordon, from the Yeshiva was the MC, there was a fire and unicycle show, balloon making, the dreidel man, clowns. There was live music and dancing, lasting for about 2 hours. Everyone received doughnuts, chanukah gelt & dreidels. The Deputy Mayor of Barnet came along and spoke. Rabbi Moshe Hashel, was the Guest Chazzan. There was an amazing atmosphere felt in the air, despite the coldness of the weather!
During the week of Chanukah, each evening other Guests of Honour have lit the Menorah including personalities from the BBC, Jewish News, Professor Winston and more. The whole week of Chanukah the MC at the Giant Menorah is Reb Hershel Gorman. A video of the Rebbe is shown each evening.
This community event is organised by Tzivos Hashem, under Rabbi Yossi & Chanie Simon and Dr & Mrs Bunim Weinbaum
Rabbi Yossi Simon also put up Menoros in 8 other central locations in London, including a new one for this year – Great Ormond St Hospital, a specialist hospital for children, as well as every day of Chanukah doing olive presses in schools and chedorim all over London.
