On Thursday, 13 Iyar, at 12:00 pm, the ‘Rabbi Yisroel Aryeh Leib Research Institute on Moshiach and the Sciences (RYAL)’ will hold its annual Moshiach & Science Conference, as it has been doing since 5752.
In previous years it has taken place in various cities in the U.S., Canada and Israel. This year, however, because of the international situation, it will take place…everywhere in the world! The Rebbe MHM has explained at length in a Sicha (Likutei Sichos vol. 15, p. 42) that modern science and technology was introduced into the world starting in the year 5600 (1840), as predicted by the Zohar, to prepare the world for Moshiach. This year, the well-known Zoom technology will be used to broadcast the conference.
Indeed, the entire purpose of the RYAL Institute, established officially in 5753 with the Haskama U’Bracha of the Rebbe MHM, is to investigate and report on ways that modern science and technology does in fact prepare the world for Moshiach or, even more, show that we are now actually in the Era of Moshiach. The RYAL Institute was established in memory of Rabbi Yisroel Aryeh Leib OB”M and the conferences take place on his yartzeit, 13 Iyar.
One of our common themes is unifying theories in science, which the Rebbe MHM explains in the above Sicha, prepare the world for the Absolute Unity of Hashem that will be reveled in the Messianic Era. This year a well-known Israeli research engineer, Yakov Guggenheim, will discuss “The Consistency of the Whole” about unifying theories.
Another common theme is Swords into Plowshares, a Messianic prophecy of Isaiah which is currently being fulfilled, as the Rebbe MHM explained at length in the famous Sicha of Mishpatim, 5752. Rabbi Avishay Ifargon, former military intelligence officer in the Israeli army, will update us on this, especially as regards China.
The theme of the conference, “Fight COVID, Not Each Other,” was inspired by the recent call of the UN Secretary-General to the nations of the world to stop all armed conflicts and join together to fight the coronavirus—Swords into Plowshares.
The program will begin with a shiur in the daily Rambam by Rabbi Levi Silman of Cape Town, South Africa. Other lecturers will be Dr. Aryeh Gotfryd of Toronto, Dr. Yonatan Bentwich of Israel, who has developed a popular unifying theory of his own, Dr. Amir Mussey, an Israeli Geologist and Ariel Gomez, an Israeli engineer from SpaceIL, the Israeli spacecraft company that sent a spaceship to the moon last year. He will discuss various aspects of the Jewish Calendar.
