On Monday of Parshas Yisro, 13 Shevat 5748, Rabbi Yakov Michalashvili dedicated a new Sefer Torah to 770. During the seuda, which took place downstairs in 770, Rabbi Leibel Groner came down with a surprise: a check from the Rebbe for $613 (for the 613 mitzvos) and a short letter in the Rebbe’s handwriting:

    Translation:

B”H. Parsha of Matan Torah and the day whose portion ends with “everyone of this nation will come upon his place in peace”,

hereby is attached a participation in the expenses of writing the Sefer Torah.

It should be noted (and illuminated) that the final mitzva in the order of the mitzvos as they appear in the Torah is the mitzva to write a Sefer Torah.

It is preceeded by the mitzva of Hakhel, “gather the men, women and children.”
