Rabbi Shneor Segal, Senior Shliach of the country of Azerbaijan and Shliach to the country’s captial Baku, leads a commemoration in the city’s Or Avner Day School in honor of “Black January”. “Black January” was a violent crackdown on the civilian population of Baku on January 19 and 20, 1990, as part of a state of emergency during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Amongst those who perished were several members of the local Jewish community.
