In an interview he granted to Beis Moshiach Magazine (Erev Rosh HaShana 5757), Rabbi Yitzchok Mendel Liss OBM related his recollection of the Rebbe’s words during a Farbrengen in the years before He became the Rebbe:
… The special Farbrengen which we merited to Farbreng with the Rebbe MH”M on Motzoei Yom Kippur 5696.
The only detail that I remember from that Farbrengen is the Rebbe saying, that although He (the Rebbe) is from the younger people in the crowd, and it would not be fitting that the Rebbe Farbreng for the elder Chassidim who were present at the Farbrengen, still and all, “you can’t compare a young general to an older soldier…”
It seems to me, that the Rebbe was referring to himself in such a matter due to the fact that he was the son-in-law of the Frierdiker Rebbe.
This was the introduction to the Farbrengen. The Rebbe then continued Farbrenging for a long time, explaining the names of the participants according to Kabbalah and Chassidus.
