The description of the Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach of his presenting the Rebbe Rayatz with the Kuntres of Basi L’Gani the day before his histalkus. This note appears in the footnotes to the list of the Rebbe Rayatz’s maamarim.

This Hemshech [a serialized discourse of Chassidus] was given to be printed by my saintly father-in-law, the Rebbe, with its first part – the Maamar Basi LeGani[issued] to be studied on the day of Yud Shevat (the yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Rivka, his grandmother נ”ע, may her merit protect us).

The maamar (i.e., the printed kuntres [pamphlet]) was brought from the bookbinder on Friday, the 9th of Shevat. When I brought the kuntres to my saintly father-in-law, the Rebbe, I found him in his room – where he would daven, where people enter for yechidus [private audiences], etc. – sitting on his chair at his table, and the Siddur (Torah Ohr, edition of Brooklyn, 5701) open before him to page 45: the conclusion of Hodu L’Havaye and the beginning of Pasach Eliyahu [= Erev Shabbos pre-Mincha readings]. I placed the  kuntres on the table, and he nodded his head with a motion of approval and satisfaction.

On the following day, Yud Shevat, Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Bo (“unto Pharaoh,” which, as the Zohar teaches, means “for there was revealed and disclosed all lights and all lamps, all that was hidden was revealed –  Zohar I:210a), at eight o’clock in the morning, he was nistalek [passed away].

And from then on, many of the Chabad Chassidim and Anash took it upon themselves to study on the day of Yud Shevat, the day of his hilula, the aforementioned maamar, whose name has already been established as “Basi L’Gani – 5710,” or “Basi L’Gani – ה’שי”ת.”
