Chaverim of Crown Heights has unveiled its first Emergency Response Vehicle – a brand new 4×4 Chevy Tahoe. This vehicle will be used for all types of assistance calls, including regular day-to-day response as well as special operations.

23 years ago, Crown Heights Shmira began offering what is known today as, Chaverim services. As the community grew, so did their need for these services, and so, five years ago, Crown Heights Chaverim was formed. A division of CH Shmira, CH Chaverim has a goal of assisting the community in every way possible.

From providing emergency roadside assistance, to helping people locked out of their home or vehicle, to keys dropped in storm catch basins and squirrels trapped in the home, Chaverim volunteers are always ready to lend a helping hand. The addition of this new emergency response vehicle, stocked with all necessary equipment, will only enhance the ability to serve the community more efficiently.

The event was held at Leasing Direct and organized by Friend Party Planners and Debby Events. Chairman of the CHJCC, Zaki Tamir, opened the evening by expressing his gratitude to one of the sponsors of the vehicle, the supporters, and volunteers of the organization. Inspector Joseph Hayward, Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct, praised the Chaverim volunteers for their dedication and service to the community.

Izzy Clapman shared inspiring words and personal stories of how Chaverim went above and beyond for him during times of need when there was no one else to call.

Co-Founder and Coordinator of Crown Heights Chaverim, Rabbi Yanky Prager, concluded the evening by explaining how the new fly car is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment that will help members respond to calls more efficiently, especially in weeks like the previous one where they responded to over 100 calls involving boosts, flat tires, flooded basements, emergency heater deliveries, and more. As the community’s “311”, Chaverim must be prepared when called upon.

Prager then invited one of the vehicle’s sponsors, coordinators, members of the community council, and Inspector Hayward from the 71st Precinct to cut the ribbon and unveil the new vehicle.

The custom tool body was designed and built by Furniture Medic and ST Woodwork. Its efficient design helps keep tools secure while the vehicle is in motion and easily accessible while responding to calls for assistance.

In the spirit of Hakhel, Chaveirim members and vehicles from Boro Park, Williamsburg, and Flatbush joined the event to show unity and support.

Crown Heights Chaverim would like to thank Boytique Men’s and Boys Clothing, Preferred Sewer Inspection, Leasing Direct, Sushi Spot, Debby Events, and Hackner Sound & Video for their support in making the event and the new vehicle a reality.
