We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Yossi Wilansky, a dedicated and beloved pre-1A melamed at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Montreal, Canada, for over 45 years. He passed away on Sunday night, 3 Iyar, 5786.
He was 71 years old.
Yossi was born to his parents, Rabbi Yehoshua and Nechama Wilansky, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where his father taught at the Jewish school. Later, at the Rebbe’s advice, the family relocated to Crown Heights to provide a proper chinuch for their children.
He merited to be the son-in-law of Harav Yitzchok Hendel, a”h — the Rov of the Chabad community of Montreal, the Rosh Yeshiva of Tomchei Tmimim Zal, and senior Dayan of Montreal’s Vaad Ha’ir.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Malke Wilansky, and his children Mendy Wilansky — Montreal, Canada; Dovid Leib Wilansky — Baltimore, MD; Sarah’le Lesches — Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Rivky Perl — Crown Heights; Eli Wilansky — Pittsburgh, PA, Yaakov Wilansky — Roslyn, NY, Moshe Wilansky — Florida; Mrs. Chaya Gottlieb — Crown Heights; Sholom Wilansky — Kingston, PA; Mrs. Toby Wolf — Crown Heights, Boruch Wilansky — Las Vegas, NV, Shmuel Wilansky — Puerto Rico, Noach Wilansky — Crown Heights, and Yissachor Tzvi Wilansky — Crown Heights, and many grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Dovid Wilansky — Elizabeth, NJ, Moshe Wilansky — Portland, MN; Chaim Wilansky — Parkland, FL, and Mrs. Toby Halon — Crown Heights.
The Levaya will take place on Monday, April 20, 2026 – Gimmel Iyar 5786, at l’erech 3:30PM, by Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Montreal — 6405 Westbury.
