    We are saddened to report on the passing of R’ Avrohom Shmuel Spalter, a devoted and humble Lubavitcher chossid, who survived the Holocaust and went on to build a large Lubavitch family of Shluchim. He passed away on Tuesday, 24 Nissan, 5785.

    He was 93 years old. 

    Avrohom Shmuel was born in Lancut, Poland, to R’ Moshe and Lieba Spalter, who were Bluzhov Chassidim. During the Second World War, his mother was murdered by the Nazis ym”s, and he escaped with his father to Russia. 

    In Russia, he was placed in a Soviet orphanage after his father passed away. After the war, he was later discovered in a Displaced Persons (DP) camp by his great-uncle, Rabbi Mordechai Gershon Spalter, who adopted him as his own. 

    Shmuel was then enrolled and studied at Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Brunoy, France, for two years. After he emigrated to the United States.

    Ahead of Shavuos 5710 (1950), he arrived in New York and joined the yeshiva in 770. He was zoche to be by the farbrengen of kabolas hanesius on the night of Yud Shevat 5711 (1951).

    In 5716 (1956), he married Mirel Lipszyc, and was zoche that the Rebbe was mesader kiddushin at their wedding. 

    After their wedding, they settled in Crown Heights, where he worked in the diamond industry. Together, they built a home steeped in Torah, Chassidus, and mesirus nefesh. He would rise early each day and was a dedicated participant in the early morning Gemara shiur by Rabbi Zalman Gurary

    Twenty-five years ago, the Spalters moved to North Miami Beach, Florida, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. 

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rivkah Mirel Spalter, their children: Rabbi Moshe Spalter – Toronto, Canada, Mrs. Libby Wolf – Chicago, IL, Mrs. Mindy Chazan – Manchester, UK, Mrs. Dassie New – Atlanta, Georgia, Rabbi Hershel Spalter – Costa Rica, Rabbi Yitzchok Spalter – North Miami Beach, FL, Rabbi Yisroel Spalter – Weston, FL, Mrs. Chanie Nemes – Metairie, LA, and Rabbi Mendel Spalter – Los Angeles, CA, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

    The levaya will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, passing by 770 at 2:30 pm, burial at Montefiore Cemetery at 3:30 pm.

    The family will be sitting Shiva in Crown Heights on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning only at 699 Crown Street.

    Wednesday from 6:30 PM, Mincha and Maariv B’zmano.

    Shacharis at 8:00 am and 8:45 am, four minyanim needed.
