We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Mrs. Rivka Rubashkin, a longtime Boro Park resident and the matriarch of the Rubashkin family. She passed away on Sunday, 30 Sivan, 5786.
She was 99 years old.
She was born to Rabbi Uziel and Mrs. Hinda Chazanov. During the war years, her family fled to Samarkand, where she married Rabbi Avraham Aaron Rubashkin. After they left the Soviet Union, they spent time in Austria and Paris, before settling in New York in 1953.
In Boro Park, Brooklyn, R’ Avraham and R’ Alter Lieberman opened Lieberman & Rubashkin Glatt Kosher Butchers on 14th Avenue.
The Rubashkins were known for their Hachnosa Orchim, with an open home to anyone in need.
She is survived by her children: Rabbi Yossi Rubashkin — Crown Heights; Rabbi Moshe Rubashkin — Crown Heights; Rabbi Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin — Monsey, NY; Rabbi Heshy Rubashkin — Postville, IA; Mrs. Gutol Goldman — Miami Beach, FL; Mrs. Sara Balkany — Boro Park, Brooklyn; Mrs. Rochel Leah Rosenfeld — Tzfas, Eretz Yisroel; Mrs. Chayala Gourarie — Postville, IA, and Mrs. Chana Zelda Minkowicz — Crown Heights, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rabbi Avraham Aaron Rubashkin OBM.
