MK Avi Maoz Condemns Arrest of Chabad Bochurim: “The Absurdity Is Astounding”
MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, sharply criticized the arrest of Chabad Bochurim at Ben Gurion Airport, saying it was particularly outrageous that members of a Chassidus known for its high enlistment rate among the Chareidi community were being arrested upon their return to Eretz Yisroel • Read More
“Dozens of Bochurim from Chassidus Chabad were arrested this morning at Ben Gurion Airport after returning from a year of learning at the court of the Rebbe of Lubavitch, arriving in Eretz Yisroel to set out on Shlichus in yeshivos and assist younger Bochurim,” MK Maoz said.
“The absurdity is astounding: precisely Chassidus Chabad, which has one of the highest enlistment rates in the Chareidi sector, is being forced to watch its sons arrested upon their arrival in Eretz Yisroel. These are the very Chassidim who devote themselves to helping the Jewish people around the world, assisting every Jew and serving as unofficial ambassadors of Israel. Yet upon returning home, they are treated as criminals.
“These arrests are part of the Attorney General’s persecution of the Torah world. I have already contacted the head of the IDF Personnel Directorate on this matter, and I will not rest until these Bochurim are released.
“Together with my colleagues in my party, I am committed to working so that anyone who wishes to learn Torah can continue doing so without persecution or arrests, while anyone who wishes to enlist in the IDF with the approval of their Rabbonim can do so under conditions appropriate to their way of life and beliefs.”
