Today marks the anniversary of the ruthless eviction and forced displacement of thousands of Jews from Gush Katif and northern Shomron – a government-led expulsion that shattered families and thriving communities and ultimately gave rise to the terror-ridden Gaza we know today. Marketed as a “disengagement,” it was, in reality, a traumatic expulsion that left deep scars across the nation.

Chabad Chassidim stood at the forefront of the struggle to stop the decree, organizing protests, strengthening the residents, and encouraging Jews across Eretz Yisroel and the world to oppose the withdrawal.

As the evacuation unfolded, dozens remained at the Chabad House in Gush Katif, offering strength, encouragement, and unwavering support to families being torn from their homes.

Twenty-one years later, the images of the expulsion remain etched in the hearts of many. Veteran photographer Yisrael Bardugo, who documented the events as they unfolded, captured some of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of those painful days.
