The gathering came after Belgian prosecutors moved to indict three experienced mohalim for allegedly performing circumcisions without recognized medical licenses. Authorities claimed the procedures constituted the unlawful practice of medicine, despite bris milah having been performed safely by trained mohalim in Belgium for generations.
According to reports, the investigation began last year following police raids on the homes of several mohalim in Antwerp, during which bris instruments and records were confiscated. Jewish leaders warned that without a legal framework recognizing qualified mohalim, the prosecutions could make traditional bris milah nearly impossible in Belgium.
The developments have triggered strong reactions from Jewish organizations and public officials worldwide. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned the prosecutions as a serious blow to religious freedom, while U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White sharply criticized the move and urged Belgian authorities to work with Jewish leaders to protect the centuries-old mitzvah of bris milah.
During the atzeres tefillah, participants recited Tehillim and strengthened one another with words of emunah and bitachon, expressing gratitude to Hashem for the open miracles and continued preservation of Jewish life across Europe despite growing challenges.
Community rabbonim emphasized the importance of remaining strong in the observance of Torah and Mitzvos while continuing efforts to safeguard religious freedoms for future generations.
