Netanyahu gave Trump an American flag pin inlaid with precious gemstones mined in Israel — a unique artistic piece that represents the closing of a decades-long historical circle rooted in the words of The Rebbe.
The story traces back to a conversation in 1988, when the Rebbe told then-Haifa Mayor Aryeh Gural that “precious stones and pearls” were hidden in the valleys near the city. Inspired by those words, the Rebbe’s chassidim, Rabbi Avi Taub OBM and Rabbi Dovid Nachshon, embarked on a long search. After 22 years, deposits of valuable gemstones were discovered in the Kishon River area and on Mount Carmel.
Rabbi Taub’s son, who continues his father’s work, later contacted the Prime Minister’s Office with the idea of presenting President Trump with a special gift: a U.S. flag adorned with gemstones mined in Eretz Yisrael, symbolizing the enduring bond between Israel and the United States — and the realization of the Rebbe’s words decades later.
Alongside the presentation of the gift, President Trump addressed reporters and spoke about current affairs. He said he supports advancing to the next phase in Gaza but stressed that Hamas must first be fully disarmed. He also expressed openness to the idea of Turkish forces joining an international presence in Gaza, noting that such decisions depend on Israel’s leadership.
Trump addressed Iran as well, saying that if Tehran revives its nuclear ambitions, a strike would be necessary and should be immediate. He praised Netanyahu’s leadership during an exceptionally challenging period, remarking that without him, Israel might not have survived.
For many, the meeting was notable not only for its diplomatic significance, but for the powerful symbolism of a gift that connected present-day leadership with a vision articulated by the Rebbe more than three decades ago.
