During the meeting, the Minkowiczs expressed their appreciation for Rep. Donalds’ consistent support of Jewish communities, his efforts to combat antisemitism, and his strong advocacy on behalf of Israel.
In a light and personal exchange, the congressman noted that he and Rabbi Minkowicz both grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, during the same years.
When Rep. Donalds asked Rebbetzin Shani if she was Orthodox (noting he knew handshakes aren’t customary), she replied with a cheerful “Yes, absolutely!”
The moment highlighted the warm respect between two families who once shared the same Brooklyn block and crossed paths again years later.
